Prime-Tass English-language Business Newswire (via email) October 19, 2007 Friday 8:32 PM EET Rosoboronexport wants more weapon components made in Russia MOSCOW Oct 19 Russia's state-owned arms exporter Rosoboronexport is interested in the production of foreign-made military equipment and weapon components in Russia, Alexander Brindikov, senior adviser to the company's CEO, told in an interview with ARMS-TASS, published Friday. The move will help improve the after-sales service for Russian-made weapons, he said. Rosoboronexport has already initiated production of foreign-licensed military equipment in Russia. In particular, France's Thales and Russia's Ural Optical and Mechanical Plant, or UOMZ, have agreed with the help of Rosoboronexport to start production of Damocles laser targeting pods in the Russian city of Yekaterinburg, Brindikov said. Also, UOMZ and France's Sagem plan to start production of Matis civilian thermal imagers in Yekaterinburg, Brindikov said. State-owned Yekaterinburg-based UOMZ produces military optical systems.
