The Resolution proposes adoption of international document that would establish international standards for regulation of arms trade. The adoption of an international convention on control of arms trade would be an important step towards reduction of illegal arms trade. Long-term, such a convention could contribute to greater global security and could, to some extent, contribute to reduction in numbers of local conflicts, armed crime and violence. The Resolution will be officially presented at the coming 61st UN General Assembly. “We use this occasion to appeal to the Republic of Croatia to become one of the official sponsors of the Resolution. Having in mind that Croatia has already taken certain steps towards policy of peace-building on international level (we are now members of the UN Commission on Peace Building), we believe that support to this resolution would be the only logical step forward”, says the CMS open letter.
