The meeting looked at a number of issues and the DRC delegations' request for police equipment. The government agreed to donate specific police equipment amounting to R1.5 million [rands] including uniforms which belonged to our former police forces before they were amalgamated. Before handing over the said equipment, I consulted the Head of NCCAC [National Conventional Committee on Arms Control], Professor Kader Asmal, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as well Ministry of Defence. The donation includes: tearsmoke grenades, teargas masks, handcuffs, boots, uniforms, megaphones and radios. The government agreed to make this donation because we believe it will contribute to the process of re-building the DRC and put it on the road to stability and prosperity.
