UK Small Arms Exports 1999

Methodological Note

The source of our data on UK small arms exports in 1999 is The Third Annual Report on Strategic Export Controls, 21 July 2000.

The following table shows the number of licenses issued for each category of military goods, and the types of goods licensed. No information has been provided in the UK Annual Report on the numbers of goods licensed for export, or the value of an individual license. Furthermore, in most cases it is impossible to discern the number of licenses which cover the export of a particular type of weapon.

Licenses, and weapon types, shown are those that are likely to cover the export of small arms and light weapons. In some cases they will also cover heavier weapon systems. Temporary licenses are usually granted for the export of goods in relation to marketing exercises, the goods have to be returned to the UK.

The license types (such as SIEL or OIEL) and weapon categories (such as ML1) are all hyper-linked. To find out more about them just press the heading.
